MEMBERSHIP COMMITTEE
The Membership Committee is initiating a new project. They will begin analyzing the IEC Chapters’
membership growth over a three-to-five-year period to develop a trend analysis to determine if the
Chapters’ membership overall has increased or decreased. If the Chapters’ membership has increased, we
could possibly learn what methods they used to accomplish this to share with other chapters. If on the
other hand it may have decreased, this could be a good opportunity to reach out to those chapters to
potentially lend a hand. The Committee will also be researching the membership retention rate nationwide.
Knowing why an IEC Member joins the organization is important. Even more importantly to learn and
understand why IEC members maintain their membership. Knowing this information will allow us to
enhance and replicate those reasons.

IEC Helps Fund PR Campaign to Defeat Massive Tax and Spend Bill
The United States Congress continues to consider radical legislation that would be detrimental to
IEC’s merit shop electrical contractor members. Late into the summer and early fall, the House drafted
legislation known as the reconciliation bill under President Biden’s banner of “Build Back Better,” which
would only require a simple majority to pass the Senate. This bill not only proposed to significantly raise
income, corporate and capital gains taxes, it also limited the pass-through deduction many IEC members
take advantage of that was a part of the Trump tax cuts. In addition, the bill would limit merit shop
electrical contractors from working on private sector clean energy work. At press time, this bill was still
pending in Congress.
In response, the PAC/PEF Committee committed resources from the Political Education Fund (PEF) to
help with a public relations and grassroots campaign to fight this disastrous piece of legislation. Through
a variety of different media vehicles, the campaign seeks to put pressure on moderate or vulnerable
members of Congress. Between the public relations campaign to combat the PRO Act, the Manager’s
Practical Guide to Union Organizing, and a slew of union and pandemic-related webinars, the PEF
continues to be a vital resource for IEC to tap into to fight for its members. And with more battles on the
way, more resources will definitely be needed. The PAC/PEF Committee hopes you’ll consider supporting
the PEF and helping IEC defend the merit shop. For more information on how your company or chapter
can become a PEF Patriot, contact Jason Todd, vice president of government affairs at jtodd@ieci.org.
