            PIQUA 15MW SINGLE AXIS
            TRACKER PV ARRAY

TMI Electrical Contractors was recognized for its work on IEC NATIONAL 2019 AWARDS | EXCELLENCE IN ELECTRICAL CONSTRUCTION
the Piqua 15mW Single Axis Tracker PV Array project.
TMI Electric (a NABCEP Certified Solar PV Installer),
successfully installed a 15 megawatt Single Axis Tracker
PV Array in Piqua, Ohio, for the local municipal electric
utility company. The project was installed on 44-acre
tract in Piqua. TMI assisted with value engineering saving
the company over $300,000 and installed all medium
voltage wiring, AC and DC wiring, modules and inverters
required for the complete electrical interconnect to
the utility grid. TMI also worked with the local utility to
provide all requirements for the solar installation. The
electricity from the solar array will reduce the amount of
electricity purchased by the municipal utility and provide
them with years of sustainable electrical generation.
TMI started the project in February 2019 and was given
the PTO (permission to operate) on June 14, 2019. TMI
met all deadlines associated with the project by working
their crews 50 to 60 hours weekly until completion. The
project included all associated electrical work required for
the systems operation, including the installation of 48,608
PV modules, 101 inverters, five Medium voltage Prolec
transformers, five 3000A/600V GE Main Switchboards. TMI
installed over 120,000’ of PVC, 175,000’ of 750 thru 250 mcm
conductors, over 500,000’ of #10 2000V PV cable. Faced
with difficulties of working on the sites during winter and
spring months, TMI’s trained technicians worked diligently
thru all forms of weather, including snow, cold temperatures
and the rainiest spring in Ohio on record, still meeting all
deadlines. The project was commissioned by the end of May
2019 with all final inspections being completed and started
the production in June. The Array will produce over 25,360
MWH of electricity worth over three million in revenue a year.
