SPECIAL SECTION Get the Best of Both Worlds — Add ABB Leading-Edge
Circuit Breaker Technology to Legacy GE Panelboards
E Spectra Series is a name that has become synonymous with panelboard robustness and longevity. Although they have stood
the test of time, the day may come when maintenance or updates are needed as part of a regularly scheduled electrical outage.
In these situations, electrical contractors are faced with the challenge of being responsive to customer requirements and
keeping up with the latest changes in technology. ABB is here to help.
The Tmax® XT molded case circuit breakers (MCCBs) from ABB are newly available to the NEMA market, and they make a
giant leap forward in industrial circuit breaker technology. Tmax XT MCCBs are designed to offer higher performance, better
protection and more accurate metering than traditional MCCBs by combining the most precise electronic trip units within the
smallest frames.
Thanks to Bluetooth® and Ekip connectivity for mobile devices, the Tmax XT family offers fast installation, simplified user
experience and exceptional reliability. The built-in connectivity links smart phones, tablets and PCs to data analysis tools on the
ABB Ability™ cloud platform, offering users access to precisely metered, real-time data from Tmax XT MCCBs anywhere, anytime.
Using the embedded smart power controller can help reduce energy consumption by up to 20 percent. Upgrading Tmax XT
MCCBs is easy, too. Users can download new functions from the ABB Ability Marketplace™, choosing from among more than 50
different protection, metering and automation options.
By the end of 2019, UL 489 and CSA 22.2 compliant
Tmax XT MCCBs will be available in seven frame sizes,
ranging from the XT1, rated at 125 amps up to 480 volts
delta, to the XT7, rated at 1200 amps up to 600 volts.
These MCCBs are suitable for both new and existing
installations. Since ABB’s acquisition of GE Industrial
Solutions in 2018, Tmax XT MCCB UL ratings have been
coordinated with legacy GE breakers for series ratings
and selectivity. Complete Tmax XT MCCB retrofit kits
are available for GE Spectra Series power panelboards.
